HSNO Approved Handler Courses-May

The TPC will be conducting further HSNO Approved Handler courses in May.
If you are a user of timber preservatives and antisapstain chemicals it is likely that you are required to have approved handlers for your site. This is a requirement in accordance with Regulation 5 of the Hazardous Substances & New Organisms (Personal Qualifications) Act. Please feel free to check with me if you are unsure of your status.
We are able to confirm the following dates and locations for further approved handler courses.
CHRISTCHURCH:
Monday 14 May 2007, 12.00pm - 4.00pm, Copthorne Hotel, 449 Memorial Avenue.
HAMILTON:
Wednesday 16 May 2007, 12.00pm - 4.00pm, Novotel Tainui Hamilton, 7 Alma Street.
PALMERSTON NORTH
Friday 18 May, 9.00am - 1.00pm, Novotel, 175 Cuba Street.
The cost for Certification & HSNO course is as follows:
Full Certificate: TPC licensees $200.00 + GST Non TPC licensees $400.00 + GST
Light refreshments will be provided to all attendees.
The course covers the following criteria.
• Describe the HSNO hazard classifications for the timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals for which she/he is to be an approved handler.
• Explain the adverse effects that could be caused by each of the substances.
• Explain the controls that are imposed under HSNO in respect of timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.
• Describe the obligations and liabilities as an approved handler for timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.
• Describe the regulations that apply in respect of timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.
• Describe the conditions of his or her test certificate as an approved handler.
Once the course has been completed, your experience will be assessed from the information provided by you on your experience form. These two criteria need to be met before I can proceed to issue a certificate i.e. course completion and experience form.
