Stationary Tank Certification - Update
11 April 2007
This is to update you on developments regarding certification of your stationary container systems.
Further to recent events where the TPC offered a complete and comprehensive certification programme, we are still finalising some of the finer details for this process and as a consequence, inspection of Stationary Container systems may still be several weeks away.
The reason for this is because we are still awaiting approval of our Code of Practice through ERMA for Stationary Container Systems for class 6, 8 and 9 substances.
This Code of Practice is likely to go out for public consultation about the second week of April. This is standard process for ERMA approved Codes of Practice. I will notify all licensees once it becomes available for comment.
What about the compliance date of 31 March 2007 you ask?
ERMA NZ and the Department of Labour are aware of this situation and have granted an extension period as long as industry are working towards certification. This means if you have not yet engaged a Test Certifier or booked an assessment you may run the risk of prosecution.
Those that have sent their form back to the TPC office or made their own arrangements will be fine, as they are working towards SCS compliance.
Should an enforcement agency query your company’s status you may direct them to the TPC as evidence that you are actively working towards SCS compliance. There is no need to contact your local enforcement agency to notify them of your position.
Practically every other industry is in the same position and has the same obstacles to overcome which we intend to get right the first time and not after the event. Remember, we are working behind the scenes on behalf of the timber treatment industry and have everything in hand.
Should you have any queries regarding this subject, please do not hesitate to contact me.
